Black Brush Algae (BBA)
Synonyms: Black Beard Algae Description: Description Here.. Cause: Low/fluctuating CO2 levels, Not enough water flow. Treatment: Add more CO2, Stablise CO2, Trim, Fix water flow, Treat with Excel/EasyCarbo.
Blue Green Algae (BGA)
Synonyms: Cyanobacteria, Slime Algae, Smear Algae Description: Description Here.. Cause: Low nitrates, Introduced to the tank, Excess Light, High levels of organic wastes (dirty filter or substrate). Treatment: Reduce light, Partial water changes, Physical removal, Clean tank.
Cladophora
Synonyms: Blanket Weed Description: Description Here.. Cause: Low/fluctuating CO2, Low nutrient levels, Introduction via new plants. Treatment: Add more CO2, Stablise CO2, Trim, Fix water flow, treat with Excel/EasyCarbo.
Diatoms
Synonyms: Brown Algae, Diatom Bloom Description: Description Here.. Cause: Silicates and ammonia in new tanks. Treatment: Wait until the bloom passes, Otocinclus affinis (Oto catfish).
Green Dust Algae (GDA)
Synonyms: Description: Description Here.. Cause: Low/fluctuating CO2 levels, Not enough water flow, Low nutrients (KH2PO4). Treatment: Add more CO2, Stablise CO2, Clean/Scrape, Fix water flow, Increase phosphate levels (KH2PO4), Bushy nose Pleco/Bristle nose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.), Leave it alone and wipe off after one month.
